The purpose of this role is to maintain, improve, clean and manipulate data in the business’s operational and analytics databases. The Data Engineer works with the business’s software engineers, data analytics teams, data scientists and data warehouse engineers in order to understand and aid in the implementation of database requirements, analyse performance, and troubleshoot any existent issues. We have a bunch of clients that their data sit on BigQuery as the core data warehouse from various datasets via streaming or batching, from online to offline data from on-prem. Your daily workloads are related to making the ‘fast dashboard’ in data visualization of the choice (Data Studio, PowerBI, or Tableau). You speak complex SQL a lot with a great sense of query performance in your toolbox. You care about lowest latency data query to provide granular access to large datasets in BigQuery.

About the Role
We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our diverse and inclusive team, responsible for maintaining, improving, cleaning, and manipulating data across the business’s operational and analytics databases. In this role, you’ll collaborate with software engineers, data analytics teams, data scientists, and data warehouse engineers to implement database requirements, improve performance, and troubleshoot any issues. You’ll work primarily with BigQuery as the core data warehouse, handling large datasets across online and offline sources. Additionally, you will be creating ‘fast dashboards’ for data visualization using tools like Data Studio, Power BI, or Tableau, while ensuring the lowest latency in data queries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Pipeline Creation & Maintenance: Develop and maintain efficient, scalable data pipelines to process large and complex datasets to meet business needs.
  • Database Optimization: Focus on query performance optimization and ensure timely data delivery through low-latency queries for large datasets in BigQuery.
  • Process Improvements: Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, including automating manual processes and optimizing data delivery.
  • Analytics Tool Development: Build analytics tools that leverage data pipelines to provide actionable insights into key business performance metrics such as customer acquisition and operational efficiency.
  • Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with stakeholders across the Executive, Product, Data, and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Data Security: Ensure data is kept separate and secure, with a strong understanding of data governance, lineage, and security practices in the cloud environment.
  • Data Visualization: Create fast, dynamic dashboards using tools like Data Studio, Power BI, or Tableau to help business teams make data-driven decisions.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Support and collaborate with the analytics and data science teams to help optimize products and solutions using data insights.

A bit about you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or practical experience in a data engineering role.
  • At least of 2 years of experience in data engineering, data management, and working with large datasets.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong experience with Marketing Technology Platforms and Data Analytics.
    • Proficient in building and optimizing SQL-based query processing engines.
    • Experience with OLTP/OLAP systems, data lakes, data warehouses, and data marts.
    • Familiarity with query performance, data processing engines, and systems.
    • Knowledge in designing high-availability data architectures and scalable systems.
  • Understanding of data security, governance, and lineage, particularly in cloud environments.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work hands-on with cross-functional teams to provide solutions.
  • Proactive in identifying query performance issues and resolving challenges in complex, large datasets.
